New York Butterflies

Butterflies are grouped by families and subfamilies. The groups represented are: Lycaenidae (blues, American copper, hairstreaks); Nymphalidae (brushfoots) with subfamilies Danainae (monarch), Limenitidinae (3 Vanessa species and red-spotted purple), Nymphalinae (buckeye, mourning cloak, crescent and question mark); and Satyrinae (wood nymph, little wood-satyr); Papilionidae (swallowtails); and Pieridae (yellows and whites). Skippers (Hesperiidae) are grouped separately. In most instances, common and scientific names are taken from the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) checklist of Butterflies for North America 2.4 edition.
